Our literary agency is committed to representing authentic and diverse voices in the projects we represent. In the past, marginalised people have struggled to have their stories heard, published, promoted and praised. We strongly believe in the need to proactively support more diverse stories from diverse authors – authors who have a lived experience of the characters and stories they are portraying.
On a practical level this means that we are committed to supporting stories in which the protagonist and the author share a marginalised identity – for example, stories with Aboriginal protagonists by Aboriginal authors. The same applies to all people of colour, the LGBTIQ+ community and people with disabilities and neurodivergence.
If you are a writer from a minority or marginalised community, we encourage you to let us know when you submit your work. Likewise, we ask other writers to understand that, if their project includes a protagonist with a marginalised identity, we may choose not to represent the project.
